A late summer night in Pittsburgh is just what the doctor ordered for Ryan Ludwick. Ludwick went 5-5 last night with 2 home runs and 5 RBI’s as the Cards walked all over the Pirates. All of the Cards bats chipped in as the Cards won 14-7. Pujols got home run number 43, but
home runs 19 and 20 for Ryan Ludwick could be more important as this team gears up for the playoffs. Every member of the team needs to produce in the playoffs for the team to have success.
It was good to see Ludwick have a hot night with the bat because it’s been awhile. The power has been out for more than a month. Ludwick hit one more home run last night than he did in the entire month of August. That’s right the power hitting righty had one whole home run in August. Not counting Friday night’s game Ludwick has 2 home runs in his last 38 games. Ouch. In fact Ludwick has had only 3 home runs since his last 2 hr game on July 12 in Wrigley field. That was the last game before the All Star break.
It was also good to see the Cards hitters pick up some runs for Adam Wainwright who had a horrible 6 run 5th inning. The Cards staff has been pitching lights out all year. It must have made the pitching staff feel better. As a pitching staff, it must be great to know that you aren’t going to have to throw a no hitter every time you take the mound.
It’s only September 5th but October is right around the corner, it’s going to be special.
I do have to bitch about one thing, it’s not Cardinal related, it's comple fucking moron related. I decided to take my toddler son down to the Rams versus Chiefs preseason game Thursday night at the dome. Being that my son is a toddler we need to take a diaper bag with us. My wife and I decided a long time ago that a backpack was way easier to tote around than a diaper bag. This backpack goes everywhere my son goes, as would any normal diaper bag. We’ve taken it into Busch and Scottrade with no problems whatsoever. However that was not the case on Thursday at the Edward Jones Dome.
The Ed had security guards outside the dome frisking everyone prior to entering into the dome. No big deal. The big deal was when the security guard informed me that backpacks were not allowed into the Edward Jones dome that night. I then informed the security guard that it’s not your normal backpack and that it’s my son’s diaper bag. He then answer’s me back, “Well…I don’t know about that…I’m gonna have to get a second opinion on you…I don’t know about this.” "Are you fucking kidding me?" I think to myself. He doesn’t tell me it’s okay to take it in, but he decides he was to take a look in the bag. I don’t have a problem with this as it is standard protocol. What is not standard protocol is beginning to tear through my
sons diaper bag like I’m trying to smuggle a kilo of coke into the game. He dug through the bag mumbling the whole time over and over again, “I don’t know about you…I’m gonna have to get a second opinion.” About that time the female security guard to our left tells me and him that backpacks aren't allowed inside, I inform her that it’s a diaper bag and she says cool and tells him to let me in. That’s not good enough for my guy. He's still digging through my son’s diaper bag.
There’s no outside food or drink allowed in the dome and that’s understandable. What’s not understandable is my security guard finding a banana in my bag and treating it like its contraband, like I’m trying to beat the system. About 5 minutes goes by and the female security guard to our right looks over. I tell her that this backpack is my son’s diaper bag. She says it’s fine. Right about then my security says for about the 15th time he was going to have to get a second opinion on me and I get pissed. I tell him not only has he had a second opinion, but that he’s had a second and third opinion as that the two female security guards flanking him on both sides say it’s okay for me to go in. He then informs me that it’s not up to them and that he’s the one checking me and my bag out. I’m ready to strangle this dude. Had I not rode the metro link down to the game I would have just taken the bag back to the car in the first place. But this situation is getting ridiculous. “I just want the extra diapers in the game so if my kid shits his pants I have a clean diaper to put him in,” I tell the guy. Right about then he looks at the line forming behind me, freaks out, and decides it’s now okay for me to take the bag into the game. Not cause it’s the right thing to do, but because he had a long line of dudes waiting for him to feel them up.
I was pissed the rest of the game. I get that there are rules, but everything’s not black and white. There are grey areas. I get you don’t want to have people take in backpacks to the game, but if I was caring a big ass girly flowery pink traditional looking diaper bag into the game he wouldn’t of thought twice about it. The fact that he felt the need to dig through the bag for 5 minutes was even worse. Somebody needs to tell that jackass that the Rams need every warm body they can get inside that dome this fall and not to piss the paying ticket holders off. The announced attendance was 20,000 less than capacity. I’m sure Kevin Demoff (Rams vice president and chief operating officer) would love hearing that a fan was almost not allowed in the game cause he tried to bring extra diapers and a change of clothes for his toddler son. Another stupid move by someone associated with the Rams. What else is new?
