Tiger hoops adds a player
By Gabe DeArmond Tuesday, August 26, 2008

While football season quickly approaches, the Tiger basketball team made some headlines yesterday.  Mike Anderson got a verbal commitment from 6-foot-10 forward Keith DeWitt on Monday.

DeWitt plays his ball currently at Charis Prep in Wilson, NC.  It is the same school attended in the past by current Tigers Zaire Taylor and Justin Safford.

DeWitt had offers from the likes of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Florida State, Nebraska, NC State and Marquette.  He was once committed to Bob Huggins and West Virginia, but backed out of that commitment earlier this year.

DeWitt said the coaching staff and the chance at early playing time were major factors in his decision.  He will take an official visit to Mizzou some time in September.  DeWitt joins Michael Dixon in the Tigers' 2009 recruiting class.

The current Tigers are practicing this week for a weekend exhibition tour in Canada.  insideSTL.com will have news from the basketball court tomorrow.

Gabe,
I know it's early, but how do you forecast Mizzou's chances of signing SLUH's Ronnie Wingo, and if they do, what position do you think he'll play?

I think Missouri is right there in the mix with Wingo. I think Illinois and Oklahoma are the other major players here. I don't know if I'd say Mizzou is a clear leader, but I don't think they're behind anyone either. If Wingo goes to Mizzou, he gets to pick where he plays. For now, I think that's running back, although I think the kid could be a terror at safety or linebacker if he wanted to as well
