One of the things that Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo had talked about after the drubbing in San Francisco is the team needs to get healthy. Not only did the Rams not get healthy but the injury situation seems to be getting worse. Both Donnie Avery and Keenan Burton had to not go at full speed due to hamstring issues. Marc Bulger will most likely not play on Sunday and the disaster that is the 2009 season seems to be getting worse. Luckily for the Rams they have one of the hottest teams in the league coming to town on Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings. Good Luck. The NFL is a cold unforgiving place so no one is going to feel sorry for the Rams. Here is a preview of Sunday's game
When The Rams Have The Ball
On Monday the Vikings defense was in the Packers backfield more than the Packers were at times sacking Aaron Rodgers eight times. That was against a banged up Packers offensive line but what makes anyone think that the Packers offensive line is worse than the Rams? It could be a long afternoon for Kyle Boller.
It will definitely be a long afternoon for Alex Barron who will be lined up against Jared Allen, who already has 6.5 sacks this season. It appears Boller will get the start although the Rams are still trying to get Bulger to go. The Vikings currently have the #1 ranked defense in the league. They are #1 against the pass and #6 against the rush. I honestly don't know if the Rams are going to be able to score offensively in this game. The Rams have scored only 24 points the entire season. This has all the makings for a long Sunday afternoon. Hopefully Steven Jackson can find somehow some way to get this offense going.
When The Vikings Have The Ball
As awesome as Brett Favre was on Monday night this Vikings offense begins and ends with Adrian Peterson. Peterson is the most dominant running back in the NFL today and will most likely have a huge afternoon against a Rams defense that has had problems stopping the run. Peterson is averaging over 100 yards a game and should continue that string on Sunday. Favre continues to defy skeptics by putting
together a great first quarter of the season. Favre has thrown 8 touchdown passes and more importantly only thrown one interception. He is doing everything the Vikings hoped for when he signed in August. The Rams have problems covering the tight end and the Vikings have an adequate one in Visanthe Shiancoe. He has become one of Favre's go-to options in the redzone. Bernard Berrian, Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin make up an underrated receiving corps so expect the Vikings to have lots of options against the Rams.
Special Teams
The Vikings drafted Percy Harvin to improve their receiving corps and their return game. Thus far Harvin has already exploded for a touchdown on kickoff return so he is definitely a threat. Returning punts is Jaymar Johnson. Ryan Longwell has been a consistently good kicker and punter Chris Kluwe has been average this season. The Rams have had a spark with Danny Amendola returning punts and kicks and hopefully he can continue to make plays for the Rams
Prediction
As much of a mismatch as last week appeared to be this one looks even more lopsided. I know you don't normally predict a shutout but with as good as the Vikings have been playing I can see the Rams being shutout for the third time this year. Vikings 27 Rams 0.
