Ah, yes...Pointfest. The annual Summer soirée of black t-shirts, tattoos and rock/alternative music put on by 105.7 The Point and Live Nation at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. The lineup for the event, now in it's 32nd(!) iteration does NOT feature the standard choices of years past which featured heavy doses of bands like Sick Puppies, Papa Roach and the like. Instead, organizers and bookers went a bit outside the box for this year's offerings making up a truly "ALTERNATIVE" lineup that has a little something for everyone from top to bottom. Although the reaction to the lineup has been mixed thus far, this is sure to be one of the best Pointfest's yet and one of the show's of the year for rock fans in St. Louis.

Headlining the show will be rockers Queens of the Stone Age who have not graced a St. Louis stage in a long time. As soon as there were rumblings of QOTSA playing this show, the excitement started to build....and rightly so. Should be a high octane set from a great band. As a nod to the old school Point listeners, Pointfest organizers tapped classic names like The Offspring and AFI to provide main support on the festival and both should secure main stage slots and extended set times. Texas alt-rockers Blue October bring their always electric performance to the ring as well in support of their most recent album, 'SWAY'. Other great acts will provide the soundtrack for the afternoon session of Pointfest as some great bands have been lined up including the Alt-Pop specialists from Neon Trees, the heavy growl of Crosses (led by Deftones frontman Chino Moreno) and the ambient sound of the always great Airborne Toxic Event. Other bands slated to perform include The Head and the Heart, Band of Skulls, Morning Parade, The Orwells and plenty of local St. Louis based acts as well.

Thinking about getting tickets just to see Neon Trees...saw them a few years back for free on downtown and they were excellent...if you like an 80's pop sound.
