It also brings us the first handful of 2012 shows to be announced, as well as many New Year’s Eve shows. Here is a quick look at what is happening around St. Louis in the month of October!
Yet again you can click the name of the artist and it will link you to the Facebook event page for complete details. Don’t forget, this is just a small look at the great music hitting St. Louis every night, so check with your favorite venues for more great shows happening. If we forgot a show that you are looking forward to, please leave it in the comments!

Grouplove
Up and coming indie rockers from Los Angeles embark on The Pageant off the heels of their hit single “Tongue Tied”, if you don’t know it you must be living under a rock because it has been all over the place for the last year or so.

The Psychedelic Furs and The Lemonheads
The 80’s are alive and well! And sadly new wave music is too as two titans of their time team up for what should be great fun for those familiar with acid wash, hyper color and cassette tapes. The Butler brothers are still behind the Psychedelic Furs, but the Lemonheads only have one original member left in frontman Evan Dando.
Saturday, October 13
Here Come the Mummies
Nashville based group that may or may not be Grammy winning musicians you know and love. The thing is, no one really knows who is in Here Comes the Mummies. They all wear mummy wraps to conceal their true identity but create some funky music featuring guitars, bass, drums, horns, and keys. Oh, and they are mummies!

Sleigh Bells
Brooklyn brings us the duo known as Sleigh Bells, consisting of Alexis Krauss on vocals and Derek Edward Miller on guitar. Screeching guitar infused indie noise rock turned up to 11 with a drum and bass track... I don’t get it personally, but lots of other people do. This should be a packed show. Producer AraabMUZIK opens.
Tuesday, October 30
Gov't Mule
If Southern blues jam rock is your flavor, then Warren Haynes and Gov’t Mule is just what you need. Haynes, longtime guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band, can shred with the best of them and he fills out the rest of Mule with a talented group of musicians including original drummer Matt Abts.
Wednesday, October 31
Dropkick Murphys
Spend Halloween with your favorite Irish punk rock band from the States, the Dropkick Murphys. They are shippin’ up to The Pageant for a Halloween costume party, I suggest dressing as a leprechaun or Bill Buckner.

Hot Buttered Rum
Acoustic string band turned electric jazz country... yeah, thats right. Hot Buttered Rum have worked with Phil Lesh, Jackie Greene, Zach Gill from ALO and many others. This band has come a long way over the past few years with slots at Wakarusa, Newport Folk Festival, and Telluride Bluegrass Festival as well as opening for Bela Fleck, Phil Lesh, and Chris Thile. Colorado based Head for the Hills supports.

Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers
It is sad for me to even type this as Stephen Kellogg has become one of my favorite bands to see over the last 9 years. SK6ers are touting this as the Hi Ate Us Tour 2012. In a statement released by the band a few months back they state that the time has come for them to (take a) “moment to explore some other facets of life.” They have over 1200 shows under their belt in nine years. They have opened for O.A.R., Dispatch, Sugarland and even those Mmmbopers from Hanson. It’s time for a break, let’s just hope it’s not a very long one. Take a night to check out Kellogg and the Sixers while you still can, it’s guaranteed to be a good time.

The Wood Brothers

This Must Be The Band (A Talking Heads Tribute)
I got to see This Must Be The Band play after the Phish show in August and they were quite a treat. Straight out of Chicago, they have been playing Talking Heads music exclusively for more than three years. They even do an annual recreation of the Stop Making Sense concert movie in Chicago and spend the rest of the year touring the midwest and beyond. This should make for an excellent Halloween dance party!
OTHER PLACES AROUND TOWN
Wednesday, October 3
Kris Allen at Off Broadway
Remember that guy from American Idol that beat Adam Lambert? No? Well his name is Kris Allen and he is stopping by Off Broadway for an intimate acoustic evening. I remember watching him on the show and enjoying a lof of his covers. His solo stuff hasn’t grabbed my attention, and he recently mashed up George Michael’s “Faith” and “We Are Young” by FUN... so theres that.
Friday, October 5
MARILYN MANSON & ROB ZOMBIE at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
Pointergeist 2012 brings us the Twins of Evil Tour featuring the shock rocker that your parents hated back in 1997, Marilyn Manson, and the former frontman of White Zombie/director/Hollywood producer Rob Zombie. Zombie’s little brother opens the show with his band Powerman 5000.
Friday, October 5
Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives at Sheldon Concert Hall
Saturday, October 6
Louis CK at Fox Theatre
Two shows from one of the funniest men in comedy, Louis CK. CK just won an Emmy for his most recent special, Live at the Beacon Theater and is at the top of his game right now. If you aren’t familiar with CK’s stand up, you should be. And if you aren’t familiar with his show, Louie (FX), you are missing out on one of the funniest shows on TV.

The Right Now at Off Broadway
Saturday, October 6
Bassnectar at Chaifetz Arena
Bassnectar is one of the top producers/DJs right now and this will probably be a pretty crazy party. That being said, dubstep just isn’t my cup of tea and I am only familiar with approximately 7 minutes of Bassnectar from Wakarusa 2011. This is what I remember: Untz Untz Untz Untz DROP THE BASS! Wickee Wickee EVERYBODY SCREAM!!!!
Tuesday, October 9
Jon McLaughlin at The Duck Room
Wednesday, October 10
THREE DAYS GRACE at The Firebird
Thursday, October 11
Clownvis Presley at The Firebird
Did you know that Clownvis Presley tried out for America’s Got Talent in 2010? Did you know that after being told he was the worst act the show had ever seen he made it a point to rip on every judge, telling Howie Mandel he hasn’t made anything good since Little Monsters and asking the British guy who he is? (No really, who is he?) Clownvis is the self proclaimed ‘King of Clowns’... think a childrens birthday clown meets an Elvis impersonator meets a stand up comedian.

Friday, October 12
Zach Deputy + Justin Torres + Dan Hubbard at 2720 Cherokee

Formerly from Columbia, now calling Brooklyn home. These guys have played at Wembley Stadium while supporting Muse, opened for Spoon, Interpol and Kaiser Chiefs. They were also called one of the Top 3 Best Acts at South By Southwest in 2008 and were featured at Austin City Limits and Coachella. You should probably go see this show if you dig the whole indie rock scene.

Brown Bird at The Duck Room
Incredibly talented singer-songwriters that were in town most recently opening for the Yonder Mountain String Band back in February. David Lamb and MorganEve Swain make up Brown Bird. Guitar, banjo, violin, double bass, cello, and drums make up Brown Bird. This seems like a show that is going to be just that much better because it is in a room like The Duck Room.

They did what other rappers weren’t in the early 90’s... wrote positive, uplifting, non gangsta raps. They introduced us to everyones favorite homeless prophet “Mr. Wendal” and took us to another place in “Tennessee.” Well they are back now with their 20 Years Later Tour and hit 2720 for an intimate evening.

Justin Bieber at Scottrade Center
Beliebers Unite! If you were lucky enough to get tickets to this show, congratulations! I am pretty sure it sold out before it even went on sale. My niece cried for hours because she isn’t going to see the Biebs! I blame you ticket holder over the age 15 going to the show without kids, how dare you make an eight year old cry! Now, give me your tickets to the show and I will forgive you.
Sunday, October 28
Primus in 3D at Peabody Opera House
The Les Claypool organized chaos that is a Primus show is a spectacle in itself. Now let’s see what happens when you add in a 3D Concert Experience and Dolby Quad Surround Sound... Oh Les, you never cease to amaze me! And your choice of venue is excellent for this pre-Halloween celebration. Please clean your melted mind off the floor on your way out of the venue, thanks!

The Infamous Stringdusters at Old Rock House
They were just in town at the beginning of September as part of the original lineup for the Del Yeah! Festival that was rescheduled due to inclimate weather. The Stringdusters played and closed the night out in front of a near sold out crowd. Now they come back through on a headlining tour for the release of Silver Sky-Deluxe Edition, a re-release of their most recent album that includes a full length live album and bonus tracks. The Infamous Stringdusters are one of those bands that you need to see if you are at all into bluegrass music. They are an incredibly talented group of musicians, write great songs, and just bring a lot of energy to a room. They also sometimes play with GoPro cameras mounted on their instruments and release the videos on their Youtube page.

Friday, November 16 & 17
The Urge at The Pageant
TWO NIGHTS! Let’s hope this is becoming a new annual tradition. Last year they sold out both nights and recorded a live DVD. I’m not going to try to sell you on The Urge, if you live in St. Louis you have seen them by now. All I will say is PTMFUS! PTMFUS!
Wednesday, November 21
Madahoochi & Friends present ‘The Last Waltz’ at Old Rock House
TWO NIGHTS! Wednesday 11/21 performing The Band’s The Last Waltz concert film in its entirety. Friday 11/23 you can catch Madahoochi performing all your favorite Hooch songs and who knows what else. The three time RFT Best of St. Louis Award Winner is technically still a band, but two of the members now live in Florida and the rest are involved in other projects so shows are scarce. With more than fifteen years under their belt, they are still one of the best bands St. Louis has produced. Get your ass out and dance with the Hooch!
Sun & Mon, December 30 & 31
Orgone at Old Rock House
Cali-funksters Orgone, who we have shown much appreciation for over the last few years, comes in for their first multi-night run in St. Louis. They have frequented STL over the past few years and have gathered a nice fan base in the process. Close out 2012 the right way with two nights of dirty funk at the Old Rock House.
