Week Three of The Friendly’s Football Picks of The Week
Look at Producer Joe.
He just flat out brought it last week.
If it weren’t for his inability to bet against Georgia or the Falcons…or the Braves…or the Hawks…or Georgia Tech…or the Thrashers…or the Calgary (formerly Atlanta) Flames…this guy could ball so hard and pwn holes.
Producer Joe went 5-1 (1-0 Lock of The Week) to go from last place to, buh, tied for first.
(We picked seven games, but that suckass Bears-Bengals’ game that @ProdJoe had us picking pushed…which makes the fact that we wasted time on it even worse…so all of our scores are based off of six games…not seven).
Meanwhile Denny From Friendly’s went from first to last by going 1-5 (including 0-1 on his Lock of The Week).
I’m the Joe Kelly of the bunch.
I just go out and get the job done for you people, and by you people, I mean degenerates.
My 4-2 record brought me into a, buh, tie for first with @ProdJoe. And, as always, I hit on my Lock of The Week, which, to be fair, went against logic, but the Buffalo Bills were +10.5 at home against the Patriots, and for whatever reason, as noted last week, 60% of double digit home underdogs have covered in the NFL since 1988.
So, here’s how The Friendly’s Football Picks of The Week look after two weeks:
1.Tim 7-5 (2-0 on Locks of The Week)*
2.Producer Joe 7-5 (1-1 on Locks of The Week)
3.Denny: 5-7 (0-2 on Locks of The Week)
*Lock of The Week is our tiebreaker
Meanwhile, for the $25 gift certificate to Friendly’s that’s on the line each week with you people picking games in our comments section, Freak Nasty Sugar Cookies took down the pot by going 5-1. Congratulations to the great Freak Nasty Sugar Cookies for an impressive weekend and winning the $25 gift certificate to Friendly’s.
You can always participate by logging-in below in the comments section and picking the six games we pick along with a Lock of The Week. Use the most recent spreads on www.scoresandodds.com. And, for this week’s tiebreaker, use the total points of the Rams and Falcons.
And with that, it’s time to begin Week Three:
Washington (-10) at Illinois (at Soldier Field)
Producer Joe: Because Mizzou isn't playing this week we get a chance to throw an Illini game in the mix. I know last weeks win over Cincy was unexpected and it was a good moment for a program looking to rebuild, but I don't think they end up as happy this week in Chicago. Just a gut feeling and Sark will be auditioning the rest of the season for a move back down to LA.
Pick: Washington (-10)
Denny: Pick: Washington (-10)
Tim: I’m buying in on the Illini. Pick: Illinois (+10)
Alabama (-8) at Texas A & M
Producer Joe: Not sure what this number is going to do before kickoff because of the Yahoo! Sports report. Something tells me a bunch of assholes are going to start laying money on A&M and Bama drops to below a TD favorite. I would love to get a number that low. Because I love Bama at -8. Sure their offensive line was suspect in Week 1. They also haven't played again since Week 1. And even if their OL isn't great this time around it's not like A&M is a defensive powerhouse. What I like most about Bama is the fact that they have had 2 full weeks to prepare for A&M's offense. Saban isn't going to look like a fool again. Plus Bama played well enough defensively in the 2nd half of their game last season to win.
Pick: Alabama (-8)
Denny: Pick: Alabama (-8)
Tim: Man, am I torn on this one. I agree with Producer Joe on Nick Saban having two full weeks to focus on Texas A & M. That’s a huge factor to me. On the other hand, is Alabama as good as many assume they are…just because they’re Alabama. That wasn’t an offensive clinic against Virginia Tech. The team put up a good number of points. The offense didn’t. When in doubt, go with the home underdog.
Pick: Texas A & M
Vanderbilt at South Carolina (-14)
Producer Joe: Spurrier is going to spend the rest of the season waiting for Georgia to stub their toe. In the process the Cocks are going to start putting a hurting on their opponents. Starts this week.
Pick: South Carolina (-14)
Denny: Pick: South Carolina (-14)
Tim: I’m not doing this intentionally, and if anything, it’d be safer for me to just go along with Producer Joe and Denny on these games I’m not sure of, but I got to tell you: I’m not sold on South Carolina, and I’m of the opinion that Vanderbilt is a better team than many give them credit for. I’m going opposite of these gentlemen again.
Pick: Vanderbilt (+14)
Rams at Falcons (-7)
Producer Joe: Couldn't stop the passing game of the Arizona Cardinals last week? No chance of stopping the aerial game of the Falcons this week on the road. It was a good win last week for the Rams and starting the season 1-1 isn't the end of the world. But this is the beginning of a really tough 3 game stretch. One that could easily lead them to 1-3 before they get the offensively inept Jags. I think offensively the Rams have a chance to move the ball but this is not a team I feel comfortable getting into a shootout with in Atlanta. Lay the points.
Pick: Falcons (-7)
Denny: Pick: Rams (+7)
Tim: Another toss-up. This is brutal. Here’s what I do know: I love the over on this game (47.5). I just have to allocate 75% of a probability to both teams scoring in the 20’s, and if that happens, the minimum amount of points scored is 40. It’s hard for me to imagine the Rams’ secondary keeping the Falcons’ receivers and Tony Gonzalez. And, on the other hand, because of that, it’s hard for me to imagine the Rams to continue with that oddly conservative offensive game plan they displayed for the first 44 minutes Sunday against the Cardinals. I’m anticipating a big game for Chris Givens as the Falcons’ secondary is beat up…and they may attempt to account for the underneath routes of Jared Cook and Tavon Austin. There will be no Patrick Peterson to keep Givens in check this week.
Pick: Rams (+7)
49ers at Seahawks (-2.5)
Producer Joe: Toughest game on the board all weekend long in my opinion. There are going to be a lot of people who had miserable Sunday afternoons trying to get healthy again with the Sunday Nighter. I feel bad for those people because I honestly have no clue which way to go here. I think it's close so I will take the points, but I don't feel good about doing it.
Pick: 49ers (+2.5)
Denny: Pick: 49ers (+2.5)
Tim: Seattle at home. It’s as close to a sure thing as it gets in sports.
Pick: Seahawks (-2.5)
Cowboys at Chiefs (-3)
Producer Joe: Beating the Jags should come with an *. You are expected to do it. You know unless half your team got poisoned by a hooker the night before just making it to kickoff should be enough to beat them. So I don't care that the Chiefs won their first game in the Andy Reid regime. The Cowboys were my LOTW last weekend. This week they are getting points? Oh, did I mention that I went 5-1-1 last weekend? I think that is pretty good. Pick: Cowboys (+3)
Denny: Pick: Cowboys (+3)
Tim: This is insane. We’ve never had a week like this where I’m going the opposite of Producer Joe on every game, but I’m going to here as well. Dallas didn’t work for a good portion of those points last week against the Giants. They were handed plenty of them. I think the Chiefs will be a pretty good team this season, and I think this is a lay-up.
Pick: Chiefs (-3)
Lock of The Week
Producer Joe: Louisville (-15.5) at Kentucky: Here is your soccer bet of the weekend: Chelsea over Everton. The Louisville game will be over by halftime.
Pick: Louisville (-15.5)
Denny: Broncos (-5.5) at Giants: Pick: Broncos (-5.5)
Tim: Saints at Buccaneers (+4): My guess is the public will load up on the Saints. The sharps will load up on the Buccaneers. I see this as a textbook trap game where Las Vegas and your neighborhood bookmaker take lots of action on the Saints…and take lots of cash when it’s over.
Pick: Buccaneers (+4)
