Jerry Palm: Saint Louis U. vs. Missouri In The NCAA Tournament?

With the Billikens losing their third straight last night…

…and with Missouri having to edge out Texas A & M at home in one of the strangest, longest, and most bizarrely officiated final few seconds you’ll ever see…

…as a local college basketball fan, I’m starting to get the sense that this March has the potential to come and go with a whimper.

But, there could be something that happens that would not only ensure monster excitement locally…but also that at least one of the two teams is playing for a right to go to the Sweet Sixteen:

Saint Louis U. vs. Missouri in the first round (which is called the second round by the NCAA…even though no one else calls it the second round…so to be clear: The Round of 64).

Jerry Palm of CBS Sports revealed his updated tournament projections last night, and this is how it all could go down:

He has #11 seed Missouri playing #11 seed Xavier in a play-in game in the West Regional.

The winner of that game plays…Saint Louis University.

Of course…considering that with each team having one regular season game left plus an entire conference tournament left, there’s a whole hell of a lot that still could happen.

And falling under the “still would need to happen” umbrella would be Missouri having to win their play-in game…in this case it would be against Xavier.

As much as I’d love to see the two teams play, it’s still unlikely this scenario occurs. However, at the very least, with Saint Louis U’s recent trend downward and with Missouri living on the edge, the seeds could very well matchup to present this opportunity.

At this point, I'd rather see Mizzou vs SLU in an NIT game at Chaifetz Arena.

Shoot.. Missouri getting IN the tourney to begin with is a long shot, currently. I think they'd have to win TWO games, at least, in the SEC tournament to get there, and they couldn't do that LAST year (with a Bye), with a much better team.

I would LOVE to see t his, since it would mean Missouri got in...
