Welcome To Girl Next Door of The Year Week

Five days from now, one of our Girls Next Door will become the fifth GND of The Year in insideSTL history.  She will win $1,500. Second place will win $750. Third place will win $250.

It’ll all take place Friday night at The Pepper Lounge.

Throughout the week, you’ll be able to vote for your favorite GND, and you can vote for her once per day by clicking HERE.

There are three categories for The 2012 Girl Next Door of The Year:

1. Online vote at insideSTL.com from today through Friday at 5 p.m.
2. Ballots from 9:30 to 11:30 at The Pepper Lounge Friday night
3. Crowd noise at The AFC/NFC Championship Party yesterday at Lumiere Place.
4. If there is a tie in the standings after all the points are tallied, crowd noise at The Pepper Lounge will serve as the tiebreaker.

After meeting these ladies and seeing them participate in the contest yesterday at Lumiere, I have to say this is one of our best crops of Girls Next Door we’ve had. Only one cancellation. No grandparents passing away. No controversy. No fights.  Some very attractive girls who all handled themselves quite well yesterday at Lumiere Place. I know that’s boring…and trust me, after five years of this, it’s quite surprising…but it was an impressive group.

Here’s a look at our finalists for the 2012 Girl Next Door of The Year:

The AFC/NFC Championship Party at Lumiere Place

Game ball goes to Larry Nickel. He brought sick heat.

Another game ball goes to Tretter. You know…The “Chambers, You’re My Boy” rapper. It was his first time performing…and yeah, he was terrible…but a tip of the cap for the balls it took to go up there, acknowledge he was dreadful, and battle through until he got to the line everyone was waiting for: “Chambers, You’re My Boy.”

Joshua performed “Outlaw,” but he was not happy with the audio, and he halted his performance after just one sick beat. He always leaves the audience wanting more.

The judges were: Larry Nickel, Calvin May, Iggy, and Kevin Slaten’s fiancée, Tiffany Thompson.

We’ll have video courtesy of Joe Pro on the site within the next couple of days.

Email From Kevin Demoff To One of Our Listeners

Good to see the Rams have gone on the aggressive in attempting to diffuse the London situation. I’m not sure it makes me feel much better, but at least they’re well aware of the mess that whole thing caused.

I still don’t believe that there were a number of franchises who wanted to play three home games in London over the next few years. Just go through the teams in the NFL real quickly, and with the exception of the mess franchises---Jaguars, Bills, and Raiders---I can’t believe any of them would actually want this situation. And, considering the Bills already play a game in Toronto, it really limits it to two teams…if that.

Just disappointing. Even if the franchise doesn’t move and is still here in 10 years, taking three home games from St. Louis is ridiculous.

With that said, while I disagree with many of the things he said on our show, and I disagree with many of the things he’s saying now, I sincerely appreciate Kevin Demoff responding to the emails of fans and taking the heat…communicating with the community…especially when he knows he’s going to get killed. It’s not his call. It’s Stan Kroenke’s. But, Demoff has to deal with this crap, and I greatly respect his attempts to settle the fan base down. Here’s an email he sent to one of our listeners:

Jake,
Thank you for your email and for your passion for the Rams. You will be paying for one less game in your season ticket package and we are going to hold tickets flat or slightly down in terms of pricing. And we know fans hate preseason pricing, we hate charging you that even more.

Please know the goal of playing in London was to make it easier for us to stay in St. Louis for the long-term. We are committed to building a great franchise in St. Louis and delivering the on-field results our fans deserve. The hiring of Jeff Fisher and signing a great coaching staff are the first steps in the right direction. All I can ask is that you judge us over the next few months about how serious we are about winning in St. Louis and building a great franchise and not just based on one announcement. I know nobody may believe us when we say we are as committed today as we were earlier this week, but it is the truth. We have no intention of moving, just to get it right in St. Louis.

Feel free to follow up with any questions, and I’m providing a copy of Friday’s chat which has answers to many questions you may have. I hope to hear from you again soon.

Quick Hits

- This Blues’ team…man. David Backes…man. The Blues at home…man. The Central Division…man. With a win tonight in Detroit, the Blues have the highest point total in the NHL. But, with a loss, they’ll be just four points ahead of fourth place in the Central Division. Most fans are understandably focusing on the back and forth with the Blackhawks and Red Wings, but the Predators keep winning as well, and sit just four points back of the Blues and Blackhawks. The nice thing is that this tear with all the success at home has given the Blues a nice-sized gap between them and the 9th place team in the West. Minnesota now trails the Blues by 11 points.

- Now I’m scared…because after watching Missouri at Baylor, I’m starting to let my mind wander…and dream of a possibility of the Tigers playing in the Midwest Regional in Downtown St. Louis. That was impressive. No other way around it. I think even the angriest of KU, Saint Louis U, or Illinois fans would acknowledge that. I really thought Missouri would lose by 10 to 15 after Baylor got worked in Lawrence earlier in the week. Let me say this: even if Missouri would’ve lost that game in Waco, I would’ve been impressed. Why? Because that team moves the ball around and creates open looks. The ball movement is just ridiculous. And, it’s so fucking refreshing versus that shit with Mike Anderson. I’ll always consider the 2009 run thrilling, and as a Missouri fan, I’ll always look fondly on being in the building when the Tigers ran the Memphis Tigers off the floor to get to the Elite Eight. But, this is a different operation, and I think it’s a style of basketball that 1. Can get fans on board 2. Can get big time big men on board with coming to Columbia. Now, over the next 12 days, the Tigers will have to go Stillwater, host Texas Tech, and travel to Austin. Four days ago, I would’ve said I’d be thrilled with two wins out of that stretch. It’s just so damn hard to win on the road in college basketball. But, this group---especially since the loss in Manhattan---seems calm under pressure and the psychological adversity that comes with a road game. I believe that comes with the veteran leadership. So, now that I’ve seen the Tigers handle Iowa State and Baylor on the road, I wouldn’t rule out three wins. And, then…Saturday night. February 4th.  Columbia, Missouri. 8 p.m. KU comes to town…for the last time…with the Big 12 title possibly on the line. Real strong.
