Timmy’s Tidbits: Postcard From The West Coast

Random Thoughts While Sitting In An Airport

Last night was the third hotel we’ve been in since Sunday. Three nights. Three cities. Three hotel rooms. Palm Springs, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.

For the two of you who care, this is not a vacation. We’re working on a few new things. They’re unrelated to insideSTL and/or The ITD Morning After. And, while I don’t like missing time on the air---as doing the show is something I thoroughly enjoy and would continue to do even if one of or all of these things work out---the short-term negative of missing time/spending money on hotels/airfare is outweighed by the potential of these projects.

So, while I was out of town in November and part of December for our wedding, the recent trips to New York and the West Coast have been business-related. Hopefully, they all work out wonderfully, and I can buy the Rams and build them a stadium in Francis Park on the South Side.

Otherwise, I’ll be quite happy to continue to do the show and act like the godless pervert I am.

Quick Hits

-It’s safer to tweet I Heart Obama or Gingrich Pwns My Hole than it is to comment on college sports. I made the mistake of retweeting Andy Katz’s praise of the Tigers following the win at Texas. I followed that with the observation that I would’ve been thrilled with 3-1 during the four-game stretch at Baylor, at Oklahoma State, vs. Texas Tech, and at Texas. Finally, I mentioned that Missouri has a trend of (with the exception of the K-State game) getting a nice lead on a team on the road, and then letting them back in late. I didn’t think that was all that controversial, but it upset some folks. Either way, to win on the road in conference play is huge in college basketball. It’s just so fucking hard to do. The observation was rooted in the trend that---for the sake of a deep run in the NCAA Tournament---Missouri has to learn to manage those leads better. Bobby Knight made the observation that they were trying to grind clock too far away from the basket, giving defenders more time and space to correct themselves if they get beat. Bottom line: they’re in a position to hold on to leads late. That’s so rare on the road. I just would hate to see them blow a late lead in the NCAA Tournament and this surprisingly pleasant season end on a gut-wrenching loss of a game that should’ve been won. Quite honestly, I don’t think they’ve lost a game they should’ve won. They’ve lost twice, and one time K-State went off in the first half, and the second time, Oklahoma State went batshit in the second half. That’ll happen. They’ve been beaten twice. They haven’t “lost” one yet.

-I often disagree with Bryan Burwell’s columns in The Post-Dispatch. I’ll give you the official St. Louis Media Disclaimer of: “I like him, but I disagree with him.” And, I do like him. Really a good guy. I just disagree with him quite often. Unfortunately, in 2012, rarely are there public disagreements that focus on the root of the disagreement and not some form of personal attack or distraction comment that takes the focus off the issue. That’s not the case here. Good guy. Disagree with him a lot. Said it like three times already. Whatever. The point I’m failing to make is that I thoroughly enjoyed his column on the Rams, the CVC, and the impact on St. Louis in yesterday’s Post-Dispatch. If you haven’t read it, I’d recommend it.

bryan burwell is a wannabe controvercial columnist. i don't think i can find a better way to describe him. i can't believe espn has hired him to do shows. i can't believe he has a job, anywhere writing or talking about sports. his tv work is painful. his radio work is even more painful. and the things that he writes are not even controvercial, they are just plain stupid. i really think the only reason he is employed is because he is hated so much, which is better than boring. really, really sad.

smooth segway..... dgb is going to commit to mizzou in about 45 minutes, and mizzou is going to make some serious noise in the sec.
