Friday is 12/21/12 and may possibly be the end of times according to the Mayans. What does this mean for the future of poker? Not a God damn thing. Ain't gonna happen. Now that we have cleared that up...
Let's see what is going on in the Online Poker Legalization World!
New Jersey State Senator Raymond Lezniak is leading the cause of legalized online gaming in the Garden State, and yesterday the New Jersey State assembly passed yet another one of Lezniak's online gaming bills. This is the second time the state's legislators have gotten behind a state law to regulate online gaming within the State of New Jersey. The first bill in 2011 was vetoed by Governor Chris Christie (R), but hopes are high that this revised bill will be signed into law by that fat fuck Christie.
Last Friday, I ran a story in my blog about how Senator Harry Reid (Nevada) has pulled his Federal online gaming bill from the U.S. Congress. In my opinion, we are a very long way from Federal legalization of online gaming. Why do I feel this way? Well, this is a state thing. Historically, the regulation of gambling has always been left up to the states. Obama's Whitehouse, in a response to an online petition by the Poker Players Alliance, reiterated the fact that the States are in charge of gaming regulation.
It is just the fact of the matter. It has always been that way!
The fact this is an innovative technology (revenue stream) doesn't change a thing.
It is still gambling...and gambling regulation is a state's right.
The Feds know this and will not tread on the State's rights in this matter.
And I expect individual states to begin to offer online gaming (poker) in the very near future. Nevada is poised to fire up, Delaware has legalized online gaming, and I expect this New Jersey bill to be signed into law in early 2013. Like it or not, this thing is going to begin on a state level -- and the truth is, I think the Feds will never sign a Federal law legalizing nation-wide online gaming -- BUT I expect as many as ten (10) states to enter the online gaming industry in the next five (5) years.
I really think it will happen this way!
But things will never be like the old days of PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet.
That...will never be re-created again!
Merry Christmas to you and yours. The games in town are good, the holiday poker season is good, and may you be blessed with an exorbitant amount of run good!
STL POKER will be back after Christmas. See you then.
