Happy Monday.
Hope your work week goes well even if the Cardinals are not well at the current time. Gotta hate it when the Reds and Dusty Baker pull the rug out and sweep you away.
IT'S TIME TO END THE LOVE AFFAIR WITH TYLER GREENE
Sunday night, Greene pinch hit for Daniel Descalso and struck out. Granted, everyone the Cardinals put up against Aroldis Chapman struck out. Saturday, Matheny
inexplicably used Greene to pinch hit for Matt Carpenter with 2 outs and the bases loaded in a tie game. Lefty/righty matchups be damned; keep Greene for pinch running roles, please. Don't use Greene to replace .290 hitters. Good Lord. What a disaster of a decision.
And with that decision (made by me just now) to keep Greene for emergency purposes and pinch running only, we have officially moved Greene to Miguel Mejia status. Congrats everyone!
DITTO FOR VICTOR MARTE
It's not just the numbers and performance, every time I see him on the mound I think Ray King came out of retirement and switched to right handed. If you're keeping score, since the middle of May Marte has given up 15 runs in 24.2 IP. Fortunately, the club is doing something about it by promoting Trevor Rosenthal from AA Springfield.
The long sought after and coveted Brian Fuentes is also on his way to the Cardinals. If this was 2009 or 2008, this would be a huuuge deal.
SAM BRADFORD LIKES IT WHEN PEOPLE RESPECT THE HEAD COACH
Don't want to delve too deep into this comment, but it's interesting nonetheless. From NFL.com:
"Having Coach Fisher there is something that is really going to help our organization. He's a guy who's been in the league and winning games for a long time now. He's knows what he's doing. From Day 1, he's had the respect of everyone in our locker room, which I think is extremely important. The changes that have been made this year and in the offseason are definitely going to help us win games."
The comment about having respect from everyone in the locker room is a sublte indictment of the previous administration. Hey, the Rams have already made progress!
As for Bradford, his ankle is still a topic of discussion. And it's still a topic in Bradford's mind which worries the fan in me a little. From CBS Sports:
"It's good, it's good. I would say there's still days where it's not 100 percent, but I really haven't had any major setbacks. It seems to be getting better every week. I'm hoping by the time training camp gets here that it'll really be a non-factor."
Yeah. Yeah that would be a good thing. Speaking of the good, Bradford donated 500K to his native University of Oklahoma a little under a month ago. He does have the money to do such a thing.
WHEN THE HEAD COACH DOESN'T RECOGNIZE YOU
Jeff Fisher played in a charity golf tournament late last week in Nashville and talked to some of the locals in town. He described his first meetings with the Rams players after taking the job as head coach.
“I think that was one of the weirdest moments, when I stood up in front of the team and only recognized two players. That’s definitely different. But now it seems so long ago … Now it’s become a team and I’m very familiar with the roster.”
