If ever there was a reason to vote for a guy, it's his public speaking skill. That's why I voted for Don Rickels.

Me too. I have been making a very concerted effort to stop caring at all about what side of the aisle the politicians are on, and just go with who I agree with. When I was younger, I was just "Republican all the way" which is not a smart way to do it, IMO.

but he seems like a nice guy.
Seriously, Politics today is just deciding which special interest groups you would like running your life. I think my dad may have had it right when he said "change out the crooks every 4 years, by the time they get good at screwing you bring someone else in to begin the learning curve anew" He was senile when he came up with the theory, but it sounds pretty good if you ask me.

remember only 3 months ago when obama was on a sunday news program it was hyped like a state of the union address?? Not near as much hype anymore, I think a lot of the people that voted for him to make a "change" thought that change would have occurred by now. NBC I think has also finally realized he is not the messiah.

I hate discussing politics. but here it goes.
I voted Obama almost solely based on foreign policy. the previous administration has put us in such a bad place with so many countries we needed someone to restore our place in the world.
I wanted the war in Iraq to wind down and our troops to come home.
I wanted the relations with the EU restored. Relations with France, Russia, and Germany were strained almost to the breaking point under bush.
I feared a nuclear attack under bush - Either in Pakistan, Israel or our own soil.
I figured that Barry would be a better steward of the economy.
I figured that Obama would stop or reverse a lot of the deregulation that has occured in the past 20 years. every instance of deregulation that I have seen resulted in a very few people making a huge pile of cash and tons of people getting screwed. Banking, Utilities are prime examples.
So there you go. You wanted to know why I voted for Barry, you now know.

Barry (I guess you guys are close) is over regulating everything and strangling business. Not to mention, most of the banking problems were caused by Barney frank and his cronies forcing banks to give loans to people who wouldn't normally qualify. That was the whole catalyst for our economic collapse.

I figured that Barry would be a better steward of the economy.
The best steward of the economy is someone who gets out of the way of the economy, so that those in it can run their industries and create money and jobs. Obama is doing the opposite.
I figured that Obama would stop or reverse a lot of the deregulation that has occured in the past 20 years. every instance of deregulation that I have seen resulted in a very few people making a huge pile of cash and tons of people getting screwed. Banking, Utilities are prime examples.

Deregulation is a good thing. Do you want to go back to the days when you couldn't get interest on your checking account or an atm card? The days of a few airlines with outrageous fees to fly? The days where it was illegal to an answering machine or caller ID on your phone?
Regulation rarely accomplishes what it is intended to do. People who are going to break laws are going to break laws, no matter how many of them you make. The people that get screwed with the laws are law abiding people who now have to pay more taxes and incur more costs because of the regulations.
All you need to know is everything Enron and Worldcom did was already illegal, so all the laws made in response to it are just making it more expensive for the rest of us to do business.

I know what SKB was saying, and agree with most of it, but people around here sometimes seem to forget that some people just have a different opinion/viewpoint of what is important.
Like Rutkap said, imagine the amount of people voted for McPalin simply because shes a super-christian, and didn't care at all that she had zero credibility or credentials to be in office. Just looking at both sides.
