Katie, we'll agree to disagree. However, if you are interested in existentialist themes in modern pop culture, might I suggest reaquainting yourself with two works with which you are propbably already familiar:
The Cohen Brothers' "Barton Fink," and "Dusk," by The The.
I think you'll find both works explore themes of man's quest for purpose in a Godless world with a more subtle artisty than "American Beauty.
Furthermore, here is an album cover that features a close-up of a man's scrotum:

I have a cousin who's a Director of Photography in LA and NY and he's worked with a lot of celebrities. He came to St. Louis a couple of weeks ago and he was giving us the dirt on who is an asshole in real life and who's cool based on the people he's met. He seemed to think that, as an actor, Scarlet Johansen is all but brain dead.

Other than in ELF, Will Ferrell. He's the SAME GUY in every movie. He does stupid things, which some construe as "funny", but I just don't much like him. I know Jim Carrey is viewed much the same way. I did like "The Truman Show", and "Bruce Allmighty", though.

I would agree with your assesment if had had done 5 movies where he was just a dad or something. Those would all be the same.

He just doesn't make me laugh, except in Elf. I watched that movie on Thanksgiving the year it came out, and just laughed through the whole thing..

As for new music.... I will say you won't catch me listening to 107.7 or whatever the pop stations are. I like KSHE, but that's not what I usually listen to. When it comes to music, I listen to Christian music (91.1 or 94.1). Otherwise I listen to sports, or sports talk radio (1380 of course!)..
