FLORISSANT — Two former managers of the Old Fleurissant Golf Club took money
from golfers by directing fees to a bank account then using some of the
deposits for themselves, authorities said Tuesday.
Golf course manager Joseph J. Anatra, 27, of St. Louis, and clubhouse manager
Bradley Meyer, 27, of O'Fallon, Mo., used the money for parties, tickets to
ballgames, car repairs and a trip to Las Vegas, Florissant Police Chief William
Karabas said.
The golf course is owned by the city of Florissant. Both men were city
employees before they were fired in late summer after the city and Police
Department were contacted about the allegations, Karabas said.
Anatra faces four counts of stealing $500 or more and Meyer faces one count of
the same charge, according to the St. Louis County Circuit Court warrants made
public Tuesday.
Anatra is accused of setting up an account under the name Junior Golf
Foundation in September 2004. Anatra and Meyer allegedly directed money paid
for golf fees and food into the foundation's account, and then used the money
themselves, according to the warrant.
Anatra also is accused of arranging the sale of golf carts for $3,100 and a
$500 frozen drink machine and that $500 worth of advertising money be paid to
the foundation.
The investigation began after a golfer complained to a City Council member that
golf fees were not being paid directly to the golf club, Karabas said.
Meyer has posted $5,000 bail and was expected to be released from jail Tuesday
night. Anatra has not yet been booked into the jail; his bail is set at
$20,000.
