Democratic senators offer gun control amendment for cybersecurity bill
By Ramsey Cox - 07/26/12 07:29 PM ET

Democratic senators have offered an amendment to the cybersecurity bill that would limit the purchase of high capacity gun magazines for some consumers.

Shortly after the Cybersecurity Act gained Senate approval to proceed to filing proposed amendments and a vote next week, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), a sponsor of the gun control amendment, came to the floor to defend the idea of implementing some “reasonable” gun control measures.

The amendment was sponsored by Democratic Sens. Frank Lautenberg (N.J.), Barbara Boxer (Calif.), Jack Reed (R.I.), Bob Menendez (N.J.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Schumer and Dianne Feinstein (Calif.). S.A. 2575 would make it illegal to transfer or possess large capacity feeding devices such as gun magazines, belts, feed stripes and drums of more than 10 rounds of ammunition with the exception of .22 caliber rim fire ammunition.
That's not Obama, btw. Those are senators. Just an FYI. Also, gun control laws have been very successful in New York.

I got rid of my only handgun a few years ago, but I don't have a problem with gun ownership in general. Maybe there's validity in these automatic weapons not having a place in the general poplulation. But I promise you if a nutzo wants to kill a lot of people in one place he'll figure it out, guns or not. Instead of spending months collecting weapons and body armour, and accumulating ammo, this dude would of spent his time figuring out how to blow that fucking theatre up.

Well you seem upset that there's any "politization" going on. You further blame liberals for this. But that's either forgetful or willfully ignorant. After any major tragedy or event, it's the nature of government and public policy to examine what could/should be done. So yeah, gun control/regulation is going to be on the table. After 9/11 things like review of flight school records were discussed.

To act as if this cannot be discussed following a tragedy involving guns is utterly bizarre.

You got me wrong. I hate anybody who tries to score political points off of a tragedy. In this case it happens to be the left - not sure why anybody would deny that.

I also never said that something shouldn't be discussed. I actually agree with tougher background checks and mandatory training (like a driving license).

I posted what I did because somebody said that nobody was trying to score political bs points over this and that was not true.

Whatevs...

Maybe I missed what your point was. Where was the evidence that these democratic senators are doing this to grandstand rather than change public policy?
