Anyone taken them? If so, did you see gains?
Any recommendation on some around St. Charles? |

I don't know anywhere to get lessons out in St. Charles. But I am sure you can go to the closest course and just ask the golf pro.

Golf lessons are definitely beneficial but you may get worse before you get better. You have to trust the Pro's advice. This is easier to do on the range than the course.
I haven't taken lessons for a long time but I've been hitting ball while someone is taking a lesson at the following ranges: 1) Crystal Springs Quarry 2) Tower Tee in Affton 3) Family Golf Center in Manchester 4) The Falls Driving range 5) GolfPort in Creve Coeur All of the Pros seemed helpful and knowledgeable. Some of the prices are pretty high for individual lessons. You might see if they have group lessons. I've played golf with Dale Boggs at GolfPort. He is really knows the game. Terry Houser at the Falls is also excellent. Good luck! |

Damn, I really had to dig to find this fuckin thread.
I had my first lesson ever tonight at Golf Galaxy (Fairview Hgts). They do a lot with still photography and video. Man, I was doing some ugly shit for apparently a really long time. But I feel like I got some really good instruction and some really good tips on exercises to do at home to unlearn some of my bad habits. Oh, and their prices are $50 for each 30 min. lesson or $130 for 3 lessons.

I don't think I've ever been more excited about getting out to try something new than I am this year. I fully realize I probably won't be hitting very long, but if I can be more consistently straight (especially off the tee) because of what I was taught last week I'll be ecstatic.

I've been playing regularly for more than 20 years, and never taken a lesson. That will change this year. I'm literally 30-40 yards shorter off the tee than in my "prime" and I know it's got to be things I'm doing technique-wise. My irons have lost maybe a club and half. So, combine those two, and holes that I used to hit driver/mid-iron on, I'm now hitting driver/fairway wood and still coming up short on a lot of holes. My short game is OK, but not good enought to compensate. I realize the first thing a pro will do is change my fucked-up strong grip I've always used, and I know that's not the reason for my distance loss because I used it when I was at full distance, but I am prepared to make any adjustments he/she instructs me to make.

That's mostly due to slice rather than distance though. |

...and now I have a consistent & horrific slice. Ugh.
