This schnucks on butler hill is a dump. They ripped out the video dept about a year ago and there's still just a hole there. much like ball park village. pull the trigger on something will you! jeeze! How about a liquor dept. Most other stores have a really nice liquor dept. We get an isle. Come on now. Fix it.

Actually, a lot of kids do walk home from Marquette. I see them everyday. I follow them.

Yes, and seven other grocers within 3 miles. Bottom line, this was a case of a city going against those directly affected by this development and caving to big business for the almighty buck. It was a big "fuck you" to their constituents. Might be different if there was a large faction of residents who were for this.

one point of clarification - there wont be any real additional traffic during school hours. The people already commuting that route will still be commuting that route, they will just have another option other than the dierbergs a half mile away at clayton and clarkson. it is not like people will be driving off manchester road to go to this new mecca of shopping.

We refer to Ballwin as the "West County Ghetto"

400 people out of a community of 75,000 people? You think Schnucks wants to build a store that would not be profitable? If the 7 other grocery stores had saturated the market they would not want to build it.

I do not see what the big deal is here. I have a friend that lives a half mile from there and he is looking forward to having a store so close.

So how did the board cave? Did they approve some whacked out zoning variance or approve some controversial TIF district to start this?

THey didn't cave. The people voted against it, and the board basically said "Well, too bad. We've got final say" and approved it.

I don't see where the people voted, though. The planning and zoning board recommended to not approve and Rockwood schools wrote a letter opposing.
